Teacher’s Day is celebrated in India every year on the 5th of September to pay tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, former President of the country and a visionary educator. This day was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Port Blair. The hall was beautifully decorated in the morning by the students of class12. The students and the teachers assembled in the hall to witness the program. They were welcomed by the students at the entrance. All the other students of higher secondary classes were allotted classes in the middle and Primary sections to teach. The students were anxious to get to know their timetable and the lessons allotted for them to teach. They were guided by the teachers to handle the class. with much excitement, students went to their allotted classes as teachers. They were extremely happy to teach in the allotted classes.
While in the Assembly hall the program commenced with Mangalacharan. The significance day was highlighted by s. Varalaxmi, teacher of V.K.V. class 12th students paid tribute to their teachers by singing Guru Vandana very melodiously. Anuishri Mondal of class 12A spoke on the inherent qualities of successful teachers which bring glory to students' lives. Shreya Chand of class12 B through her speech thanked all the teachers who had been the stepping stone to elevate their life. Shri S . Vijaya Kumar the principal of the school, in his presidential address extended his teacher's day greetings to the teachers and urged teachers to gear up to raise themselves to the need of the time and to serve to the best of their ability. He stressed that the acquired knowledge through 'vidya' must be utilized to serve society and the needy rather than possessing arrogance and 'ahankar'- pride which destroys anyone's life. He insisted Students learn to respect their mother, father, and guru to have glory in their life.
